Morning Tai Chi
Tai Chi Morning Routine: A Calm 15-Minute Start
A morning routine can provide a predictable transition into the day. Its main advantage is consistency—not a special ability to “detox” the body or guarantee energy.
The 15-minute sequence
- Minutes 1–3: comfortable posture, breathing, and shoulder circles
- Minutes 4–6: heel raises or seated heel presses
- Minutes 7–10: supported weight shifts and short steps
- Minutes 11–13: Cloud Hands or another familiar flowing pattern
- Minutes 14–15: quiet closing and a steadiness check
Morning mistakes
Do not force a large range while stiff, practice immediately after waking if you feel dizzy, or progress before balance feels reliable. Sit for the opening minutes when needed.
Flow versus form
Flow practice repeats a few patterns for rhythm; form practice studies a defined sequence. Beginners can benefit from either, but mixing too many movements makes daily repetition harder.
Make it consistent
Attach practice to an existing cue such as finishing breakfast. Keep a five-minute fallback version for busy or low-energy mornings.
