Tai Chi Walking
Tai Chi Walking for Seniors: A Free Introductory Routine
This free introduction teaches the foundations of Tai Chi walking: posture, weight transfer, light foot placement, and controlled return. The complete structured PDF is included with the paid Walking Tai Chi digital program.
Why older beginners may prefer slow stepping
Short deliberate steps provide time to notice where weight is supported. Slower is not automatically safer, however; use a stable chair or counter and choose a challenge appropriate to your current balance.
A short supported routine
- Stand behind a firm chair and settle both feet.
- Shift a small amount left and right without lifting either foot.
- Settle onto one side, touch the opposite heel forward, and return.
- Alternate five times while keeping steps short.
- Finish with both feet supported and pause before walking away.
Seated option
Sit on a non-rolling chair and alternate heel placements while keeping the trunk tall. This teaches timing but does not reproduce standing balance demands.
Safety
Use a level, uncluttered surface and secure footwear. New dizziness, recent falls, surgery, injury, or changing symptoms are reasons to seek individual advice.
